St. Cecilia Music Center is the only organization of its kind in West Michigan. Established in 1883, it operates today under the same basic mission as described by its original founders, “…promoting the appreciation, study and performance of music in order to enrich the human spirit and enhance the quality of life for the residents of West Michigan…”
In fulfilling that mission, the organization’s performance programs reach over 30,000 people annually and it provides more than 27,000 hours of music instruction to people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. St. Cecilia Music Center enjoys the distinction of being the "mother of the arts" in Grand Rapids. Many of the city's most prominent arts organizations, including the Grand Rapids Symphony, Opera Grand Rapids and the Civic Theater, trace their roots to programs that originated at the Society.
Since 1894, St. Cecilia has operated from a landmark building located at 54 Ransom St. NE, which has been restored and preserved for generations to come.
